Looking for a quick summer outing sounds simple until a group chat gets involved. We spent days debating between beaches, hill stations, resorts, and day trips around Mumbai. A water park was one of several ideas on the list, but it was not the option anyone felt strongly about at first.

What stood out immediately was the size. Even before spotting the rides, we could see groups heading in different directions, families planning their day around the map, and towering slide structures rising above the rest of the park. It felt less like a water park and more like an entertainment destination designed to occupy an entire day.
Over the past 2 decades, Water Kingdom has grown into one of the most recognised names among water parks in Maharashtra. The scale is impressive, but so is the way the entire experience is organised around helping guests make the most of their day.
Rushin Gushin and the Slides that Reset Your Fear at Water Kingdom
The most useful advice we found on Google was simple: head to the thrill rides first before queues start building. We began with Rushin Gushin, a 70 ft free-fall slide with a near-vertical drop towards the end. The ride lasted only a few seconds, but it was long enough to leave a lasting impression. The reactions from our group ranged from laughter to screams that no one would admit to.
What-A-Coaster took things further. The 7-storey descent sent riders accelerating down the track at speeds of approximately 40 mph. The climb gave us enough time to question our decisions before gravity took over.
The Aquadrenaline Vortex quickly became the group's favourite. Its high-speed funnel-style experience delivered the perfect balance of thrill and repeatability. More than a few of us joined the queue again before moving on.
Inside Wetlantic, Asia's Largest Wave Pool
After the intensity of the slides, Wetlantic offered a completely different experience. Stretching across 100 m, the wave pool combined open water, themed sections, and enough space for groups to spread out comfortably. The waves arrived in cycles, creating alternating periods of calm floating and energetic bursts when larger waves rolled across the pool.
What surprised us most was how social the experience felt. People drifted apart, floated around, and naturally regrouped again without constantly coordinating where everyone was. It managed to recreate some of the atmosphere of a beach without requiring a long coastal drive.
When Adults Stopped Pretending They Were Just Supervising
At one point in Wetlantic, we stopped floating long enough to watch what was happening around us. A group of children near the deeper section were counting down every incoming wave as though it were a major event. Standing beside them were their parents, equally invested in the countdown, equally determined to jump over each wave, and laughing just as loudly when they failed. A few metres away, another group of adults who had probably arrived with every intention of behaving sensibly were splashing each other, racing towards incoming waves, and celebrating small victories that made absolutely no sense outside a water park.
That was when we realised something about Water Kingdom. The experience is not divided between children having fun and adults watching from the sidelines. Everyone ended up participating. Children discovered bigger adventures, while adults rediscovered a version of fun they rarely make time for anymore. Considering that 2 members of our group had spent the morning screaming their way down Rushin Gushin and immediately queuing for another turn, we were hardly in a position to judge.
Lazy River, Food Courts, and Where Water Kingdom Lets You Breathe
Not every part of Water Kingdom is designed around adrenaline.
After spending the morning moving between slides and attractions, the Lazy River offered a welcome change of pace. Floating along on an inflatable tube, with no queue to think about and nowhere particular to be, felt surprisingly refreshing after the excitement of the larger rides.
Mama Miya offered another welcome pause, with warm water, jacuzzi jets, rain showers, and sprinklers creating a relaxed environment that encouraged us to stay longer than planned.
Dining options were spread conveniently throughout the park. Food Wharf served Indian vegetarian cuisine, while Taipan offered Indian-Chinese dishes. Several quick-service counters provided snacks, pizza, fresh fruit, chaat, and refreshments throughout the day.

Getting to Water Kingdom from Pune
- By Car: Approximately 183 km via the Mumbai-Pune Expressway and the Western Express Highway to Borivali West. An early start avoids traffic at the Mumbai toll junction and through Borivali.
- By Bus: Multiple operators connect Pune and Mumbai, with journey times from approximately 1 hr 45 min. Alight at Borivali and take an auto-rickshaw to Gorai Creek.
- By Train: Regular services connect Pune to Mumbai’s Borivali station on the Western Railway line, from where the auto-rickshaw and ferry route to Water Kingdom takes under 30 minutes.
- Ferry (All Visitors): The Gorai Creek jetty ferry is the final leg from Borivali for all visitors. Ferries operate from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM daily.
